The new website I built is now live at https://rocheoil.com. This engagement replaced their existing website with simpler navigation, larger font treatment, an updated forms system with better presentation of submitted data, and a bill payment setup that required coordinating with their payment processor.
This project went very smoothly. All written content and images were known once we got out of the first phase of the project, called Discovery. This allowed us to place actual content into the design, instead of placeholder content, as the design was created. We already knew exactly what content and images belonged on which pages. This allowed coding to proceed rapidly and without any pauses.
The design relies just as much on font treatment as it does images and layout. All fonts are served locally, and all font styles are coded in the stylesheet, not relying on the page builder. This means the client doesn’t have to worry about setting font properties in the page builder when updating their own content, and we can adjust all such properties from a central location, and it will replicate throughout the entire website.
As usual, the client has complete control over the website and has access to their hosting control panel, along with SFTP and database access. The site is 100% portable to other WordPress hosting providers, as nothing is proprietary on the server. My mantra is “no sacred cows”. Clients should be able to take over their website and web hosting if they need to, with no impediment, and host it where they please if need be.
